When one high school student dies - for any reason - it is a tragedy. When one dies in a drunk and/or reckless driving crash, whether their fault or not, it is a travesty. When five from the same school die in wrecks in six months, there is not a word to properly describe it.




Rarely does anyone feel better after a behind-the-wheel outburst. Ill will begets ill will. The best way to fight fire is with water, not fire. Ignoring another driver’s crazy actions or calmly calling 911, if necessary, are the only ways to respond to these outbursts.


Following another vehicle too closely gets worse, the bigger the front car is. The preponderance of big rigs on the Atlanta road system can test other drivers’ patience for various reasons. But everyone should remember that driving directly behind a tractor trailer puts a car right in a blind spot. And when things go wrong and someone rear ends a big rig, the trailing car always loses that battle and sometimes tragically.



Atlanta Public Schools implemented speed cameras last fall and, after a grace warning period, issued around 41,000 speeding citations in the 10 different school zones in the first three months.


These are just songs; they are art. None contains actual advice or is necessarily based on real events. But since driving is a huge part of our culture, we should not have a blind spot to these sometimes musically glorified misgivings.


Smartphones debuted as the majority of Millennials were at, in, or near driving age. Texting became a phenomenon less than ten years before that. The advent of those technologies brought a spike in distracted driving well before Gen Z’ers got behind the wheel.


A large number of problems on I-75 in this area involve tractor trailers. This is most likely simply due to the fact that freight is a huge presence all through the state. And as I-75 stretches to the far north or far south of the metro area, the freight percentage increases.
